Mission: Season 2: Mission 2: Just Breath
Location: Gary'a Quarters
Timeline: Current

Gary had gone to his quarters after seeing Lia. It broke his heart to see her so despondent. It seemed as if her injuries had sucked all the energy right out of her. He tried to be positive and uplifting but it was hard. His mind drifted back to when he and Lia had first 'met' a meeting in his ready room and the argument that followed had truly been memorable. A slow smile appeared on his face as he thought what a first rate jerk she had been. Oh, how wrong he had been. Here it was a year later and they were a couple. Now, there was a very real possibility that Lia might be leaving due to injuries she suffered in taking back the Elysium. He shook his head as he thought about it. They had come so far! They had helped each other deal with their private hardships. "How far we've come Lia." He whispered to the silent walls.

He walked over to the replicator and got a drink. He tried not to think on Lia leaving, it hurt too much. Just the thought of it made his chest hurt. There had to be a way to keep Lia aboard! There just had to!. The Elysium had a state of the art Sickbay, it rivaled a starbase. Surely, they could come up with some treatment, physical therapy to help Lia and keep her on the Elysium. He refused to stand idly by and do nothing. Something, anything had to be done to prevent Lia's leaving. He had already lost one love in Catlin, he didn't think he could stand to lose another. he knew even though he told Lia differently. If she was forced to leave, the walls that had tumbled and crumbled would go back up and stay up. He would let no one get close again.

He swallowed his drink in one gulp, his anger boiling over and slammed it down on the countertop with such force it shattered, the pieces scattering like quail going for cover. He shook his head and grabbed for a towel and stopped he could clean it later right now he wanted to think and dream of better and happier times even if it was only a mirage.

"Computer play Anticipation by Carly Simon." Soon his quarters were filled with the words and music of the poignant song.

We can never know about the days to come
But we think about them anyway
And I wonder if I'm really with you now
Or just chasin' after some finer day

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you
And how right your arms feel around me
But I, I rehearsed those words just late last night
When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

And tomorrow we might not be together
I'm no prophet and I don't know nature's ways
So I'll try and see into your eyes right now
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days

(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)

Commander Taylor wants the good old days, Commander Holmes regrets the passing of time. Love is many faceted and difficult to comprehend, and these two seemed to have found it.

This writer has placed himself squarely in his characters shoes, and has written as only a lover loosing his one true love would. I wish I could do this as easily as Jeff does, nice post well written and well done.
