Confessions of a Lonely Heart

Posted on Sun Sep 8th, 2019 @ 11:46pm by Commander Gary Taylor

Mission: Mission 3: Masquerade
Location: Gary's Quarters
Timeline: Before "Home"

Gary was clearing space in his closet for Lia to put her clothes when he suddenly stopped. He walked over to the bedside table and
picked up the picture of Catlin and himself and began talking. "I asked Lia to move in and she said yes but I don't want you to think
I'm going to forget you. I could never do that. I would never do that. I'll always love you Catlin. You live inside me with every beat of my
heart and every breath I take. I'm just lonely Catlin. I want someone to talk with, enjoy good times with and even cry over bad times.
I want someone to share life with and Lia does that. She's smart and sexy and has a great sense of humor. we argue and fight but we
make it work I think because we also respect and like each other despite our differences. I wish you could have met her. You two would
have hit it off and been best friends."

He paused for a moment before going on. "You know of Lia's 'problem'. We're going to try and deal with it together. It's going to be a
challenge no doubt but I think we can do it. If we can't she is going to see Dr. Bashir on Deep Space Nine. He helped her before, I'm
sure he can help her again if we can't handle it." He smiled and chuckled softly, "Lia said she's going to turn the quarters into a
Japanese Tea House. Can you imagine it? I don't know if I can but knowing Lia, she'll pull this off. I just hope she doesn't ask me to
wear Japanese clothes. That would be a bit much." He sighed. "In other news Liselle and I haven't spoken since returning from the
Romulan prison. I don't know if or when we ever will outside of work. She made it clear she would never forgive me for the torture
and humiliation she went through. I just wish she realized she isn't the only one hurting but that doesn't seem to be the case. So,
I think our friendship is over and that hurts and saddens me a great deal. I'd rather lose a limb then lose Liselle as a friend. But it
looks like our friendship is in the toilet to be polite. Speaking of the prison, it looks like someone is targeting the Wolves as well
as Admiral Zhukov and we can't have that. We're not sure if it is the Ghost but all signs point to him. If it is, we'll take care of
him permanently. The Wolf Way. Oh, Aubrey Tate escaped or was allowed to escape. Not sure if our capture and his escape are related
but it wouldn't surprise me if they are." He was quiet for a moment then he suddenly lashed out, Damn the Romulans! Damn them all!
I wish I could just walk away but I can't. I'm too involved, too deep. There's no walking away." His voice full of remorse and regret.

He walked over to the bed and sat down. Tears filled his eyes. "When you think about it drop in and check on me. I can use all the
help I can get and you always knew what I needed whether it was a friendly ear or a kick in the pants." He kissed the picture. "I'll
always love you Catlin. You were the best thing in my life. This song is for you, Catlin, my love." He took a deep steadying breath.
"Computer play. Heaven Needing A Hero by Jo Dee Messina." An instant later his quarters filled with the music

I came by today to see you
Though I had to let you know
If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time
I'd have held you and never let go
Oh it's kept me awake night wonderin'

I lie in the dark, just asking why?
I've always been told you won't be called home until it's your time
I guess Heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up for what you believe and follow it through

When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is that Heaven was needing a hero like you
I remember the last time I saw you
Oh you held your head up proud
I laughed inside when I saw how you were standing out in the crowd

You're such a part of who I am
Now that part will just be void
No matter how much I need you now
Heaven needed you more
'Cause Heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you

Brave enough to stand up for what you believe and follow it though
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is that Heaven was needing a hero like you
Yes, Heaven was needing a hero, that's you
