Character Background

Personal History Born Peyton Oranos Sempton Jr to Terran archaeologist Dr. Peyton Janus Sempton and his wife Arriana Sempton.

Peyton Jr's life was spent moving from dig site to dig site. Never in one place for to long, he never made any real friends and instead turned his interests to the only things he could take with him, books.

From the moment he could pick up a shovel and dig, his father began grooming him to take over his work. Peyton Sr's constant pushing of his son bred only resentment.

Tired of being expected to be the best because of his father, Peyton left home to enlist in Starfleet. He dropped his first name and modified his middle becoming Orin Sempton, thus taking himself out of his father's shadow.

After his first mission on board the USS Renegade where he and most of the command structure of the Renegade were taken hostage, he took the time to reflect on his own life. Returning home when the Renegade went into dry dock, he was able to reunite with his parents and make peace with his father.

Rejoining the crew of the Renegade, Orin found that the ship was to be Dry docked and the crew reassigned to the newly constructed Triton Seabase on Amphitrite. Anxious to make a good showing, Orin accepted his transfer to study the unexplored planet as a marine archaeologist. Jumping into his new role of running an entire department dedicated to the study of the planet, Orin became a trusted crew member whose slightly out of time worldview would come in handy for understanding their new surroundings.

Unfortunately, not all new discoveries are good. While studying a new type of bio luminescent krill, the crew of the seabase began to exhibit strange outbursts. Anger, paranoia, fear and some falling into comas. It was found that the krill had infested the seabase, and were somehow affecting them. To save everyone, Orin and the Science Department were tasked with creating a pathogen that would kill the creature. This lead to the find that the creatures were intelligent and spoke using a style of telepathy. Unfortunately, it was this telepathy that was causing the changes in brain activity of the crew. Defying his commander, Orin activated an emergency purge of the system, completely crippling the water supply for the base, but saving everyone. For his actions, Orin was demoted in rank and sent back to Earth to await reassignment.

Later transferred to the Cassini, Orin tried his best not to stand out. He understood the stigma of what he'd done would stay with him, so he did his best to keep those around him from learning anything about him.

When the Cassini was destroyed, he was transferred with the crew to DS 13 to await new orders.
