Character Background

Personal History Born in 2347 to a homeless mother and an unknown father, a man believed to have been her mother's assailant, Liorga's life did not start out on the best conditions. Her mother struggled to make ends meet, working odd jobs and occasionally acting as a "comfort woman" to provide for her child, but they managed to have a somewhat normal life, if not one of luxury. Then at nine the mother and daughter were attacked by unknown assailants, believed to be from the Orion Syndicate. Liorga was taken away by a Bajoran woman she knew only as Laika, who tried to protect the child as best she could from the violent moods of the other members of the gang, one of whom was believed to be her husband.

At eleven Laika and Liorga tried to escape, leading to Laika being killed by the gang for her betrayal and leaving Liorga at the mercy of the gang leader, a man known only as Boss, who would lose her in a poker game to a Ferengi criminal known as Barnkt. Barnkt abused Liorga for two years until she was rescued by security crew of the USS Grotton when they attacked Barnkt's fleet in an effort to prevent him from continuing to supply the Caardassians in the Federation-Cardassian war.

Over the next two years Liorga gained enough basic education credits to attain a high school diploma and on the date of her eighteenth birthday joined Starfleet. She continued to search for her mother with the assistance of Chief Petty Officer Jason Driver, one of her rescuers and the man who took her in after her rescue, though she now only does the occasional search, having come to believe after nearly forty years that her mother must be dead.
